Route 66

So, here we are in Shawnee, Oklahoma, right outside Oklahoma City. We have stayed entirelyon Hwy 40 which is the new Route 66, with freeway exits to travel the actual Route 66 road if you wish. Mostly we've stayed on the FWY except to get gas we've travelled the old road. Which it is, old!

We have seem alot of country these few days. We were so exited to stop in Williams, Arizona and visit the Grand Canyon. The kids were excited about seeing it than actually seeing it. I think that is called the "pooh" syndrome. The way Pooh likes the anticipation of eating the honey more than the act itself. Anyway we took the train from Williams to G.C., I definately recommend it. Other highlights were: lightening in New Mexico, bought illegal fireworks on an Indian Reservation, stopped at "Cadillac Ranch", "The Legs" and "Largest Cross" all in Texas. We have had a lot of "gotta be there moments" as a family and lauging more than yelling. If you have travelled at all with more than one kid in the car you know what I mean.

Well, tomorrow we plan to drive 400 plus miles to Memphis, gonna see The King's pad (Elvis' Graceland). We are excited about it and are trying to pump it up with the kids. We may even stay the night at the "Heartbreak Hotel"..oh, yea. We are going full throttle tourist on this one! Should be fun!

The Beginning

So how did all this begin? A 3 month"stint" at the marketing department of John's company turned into a major life change.  We've known for some while that to move up in his industry, home office experience would be a must.  So, a post (for a job not a blog) has put me here on the eve of our move to Atlanta, Georgia,  Alpharetta to be exact.   With our California home rented,  our Georgia home partially unpacked I sit, still in my jammies (no surprise) in the bonus room of "Petie's house" creating a blog to tell the tale.  To Sterling's disappointment we wouldn't make good pirates!  SO you have to be a Disney fan to get that one.

Really our life has been in a blender. I couldn't really call it chaos, but definitely more of a blender, since September.  With John back and forth from GA to CA and I holding down the fort of 3 busy kids and an equally busy lifestyle of the Johnston Clan.

Anyhow, John got the "in house" job in January started in February, we told the kids in March, along with friends, bought a house in APril, rented and moved from our ca. house in April to live the remaining 8 weeks with Petie and Papa.  Already the stories, chaotic circumstances and stressful events have incurred ,where it feels like I am a reality show on Fox or maybe, an even cheesier station.

So for your friends and family who are interested or compelled to read our story I will be Chronicling the story of the Johnstons "Move to Atlanta" on this here blog. Mostly as my own "diary" of remembering a time in our lives when every detail seems to be etched in  my memory with the reality in a few short years the specifics will elude me.  Perhaps for you it will be a chance to stay connected, maybe spark your own memories and frankly, make it easier for me keep in touch with all of you.

Feel free to respoond, post your own "versions" of events but don't worry about correcting my grammar, with over 15 years since college, 3 kids and lack of formal typing training I am full of mistakes.  Besides, I think I'll make the kids do it for me...practice for them. :)  And in reality I was a TV Film Major and a drama minor. Unless this was on a silver screen or big stage, this is the best you get!!!!!!  Sorry Mrs. Kniess.  I probably needed you for a parent refresher course in language arts.

Untill next time, same johnston channel , same johnston time....go write a blog!
