Where were you?

Seven years have gone buy in a flash.  It seems unreal that the attacks on America happened 7 years ago.  I remember John waking me up at some ungodly time of the morning to tell me that a plane crashed into the World Trade Center.  In my half daze and disbelief  that it could be anything but an accident I said, "What an idiot!".  Obviously implying some 1/2 brained man flying into the building.  It was a minute later when he came back in our room and said, "Bub, another one crashed".  I sprang out of bed to the TV.  In the back of my mind I new it was intentional and probably a terrorist but it was still hard to believe.  I was waiting for the "coming soon to theatres" logo, as this had to be just a giant marketing trick for the next blockbuster film.  As more and more footage was being shown, I too was numb like the rest of America watching the disbelief of the moment.  It was a Moms Club Park day.  I walked S (2 1/2) and M.(2 months) to Koch Park with a sony walkman radio.  I remember there were only 3 of us there that day.  Maybe it was Kim or Fida but I remember Brenda specifically.  I didn't know her real well at that point and she was very stressed and nervous about her husband working on a consult job in the DC area.  She heard from him that morning and he was okay , for the moment. The whole day was in slow motion and life seemed to be at a stand still.  There is not much else I remember about that day specifically.  With a new born all days seem to be blended into one.  I can recall days, weeks and months following where all Americans united in sorrow and pride for our Nation.  So today I'd like to ask each of you to post your message of where were you on 9/11?  Also, I've uploaded a picture from our local high school and their tribute to those who died that day.

Paprika!!!

Cooking dinner last night(actually reheating),  I was reminded of the Paprika story.  It happened some months back while living on Swanee.  I was fixin' moms favorite dinner, Refrigerator Buffet! Basically you take all the leftovers and any other food items out of the frig for the kiddos to eat for dinner.  It is my famous meal when hubby is OOT.
S. was somewhere else and I was a fixin' up the girls buffet. N. wanted applesauce from the buffet to compliment her meal. M. picked crowded cheese, a term she used as a toddler for cottage cheese. I guess I never really thought about it before but those curds are crowded together.  Actually, I think she just thought we were saying crowded not cottage.
As usual I didn't sit to eat and was moving briskly thru the house putting things away, cleaning and preparing for the next day.  When the girls wanted to excuse themselves from the table, I did a quick reminder to N. to finish her a. sauce.  She announced, "Yucky".  As I turned for a good look at her bowl I noticed she had indulged herself in a heaping, a very large heaping of cinnamon on her sauce.  In fact, the full jar was almost empty. I told her she would need to eat what she could since she made the concoction.  A rule I picked up from my 8th grade Home Ec. teacher.  Funny, I didn't like her very much!  Still  it's my rule.  Anyhow, she kept saying yucky. "Yes", I'd say.."it is yucky.  You only need a little cinnamon.  Too much IS yucky!"  As I entered the kitchen I noticed that the cinnamon jar was on the counter.  Oh no!  That shouldn't be there, I thought.  So I rushed into the dining room! Yep, she had mistakenly grabbed the Paprika(for M's crowded cheese).  Our bottles are clear glass so the spices looked the same.  It was literally a heaping mound of Paprika on her applesauce.  Of course, M. and I were cracking up.  N., not so much.  We thru out the applesauce and got a new bowl for here with just the right amount of cinnamon.  So that is why last night M. was eating crowded cheese with no Paprika for another Refrigerator Buffet night.
